The 1960s were the "Ages Doleful" for gays in America, but the Stonewall riots that would change forever, "writes Nate Micó. In the 1960s, poofter activity was illegal in all U.S. states except Illinois. Aversion therapy and even lobotomies for gays were regular. "Cures" often left homosexuals as "vegetables walking", other treatments injections complex than simulated drowning as a means of finding a cure.
On June 28, 1969, a gun on the popular bar in Greenwich Village sparked three days of rioting that would borrow the story.
Violent protests and street demonstrations, the burden of incense collective oppression and abuse of homosexuals, said the gay rights movement began.
It's an interesting story, and I'm ashamed to say I did not know much about until now.
The Stonewall Inn was not the warm and cozy while welcoming place for homosexuals that some people believe. The hotel was run by the mafia. They sold the stolen beer diluted with excellent three times the price of a normal bar. It has often been the focus of the raids. But it was a place where they could gather in the gay ghetto.
