Tyler Clementi was a gay Rudgers University recruit who committed suicide by jumping out the connection to George Washington last year after discovering that his roommate had secretly issued a romantic competition he had with another man on the Internet. In the wake of his death, the stories of LGBT youth who are bullied and then commit suicide dominated the airwaves.
Since the country seems to have become even more sharply divided on the issue. For many there was an outpouring of concern that inspired the "Great It Gets" campaign, a project initiated by columnist Dan Savage in which thousands of adult gays and lesbians as well as celebrities and companies created videos to share own stories to allow adolescents to learn they are not alone and there is a place for them in our society.
Others, especially the right wing conservative Republicans have charmed a different position on the issue and have either passed or tried to enact laws that rip off remove the rights of LGBT people.Case in point, Friday, May 20, the Senate passed SB0049, Tennessee, also known as "Say not gay" The bill, which prohibits discussing homosexuality educators from kindergarten to lower secondary classes . Stacey Campfield Senator who sponsored the bill, told the radio b newspaper people, the bill was necessary because that homosexuality is essentially a lifestyle choice that children should learn from their parents, which are also to inculcate in their hand if it is an "abomination" or not. Basically their actions will give credibility to the bullies and further isolate LGBT youth.
