The cases break apart amid the sex scandals at Penn State, Syracuse University’s basketball program and the Bush-leaguer Athletic Union. It is happening years after similar scandals rocked the Widespread Church and the Boy Scouts of America, setting off a national public powwow about trusted leaders accused of disturbing acts against children.

Claim crime statistics don’t track how many coaches or teachers have been accused of erotic crimes against children, but one measure indicates it’s happening more again: The number of teachers and administrators stripped of their licenses for sex-related offenses against children increased to 33 last year, up from 18 five years earlier, according to the aver.

"I believe there are more teachers crossing the line then there were 10 years ago," said Chief Helper Passaic County Prosecutor Joseph Del Russo, a veteran of the singular-victims unit that investigates sex crimes against children.

To be sure, most of these crimes are perpetrated by the young gentleman’s relative, and the number of teachers and coaches accused is a miniature fraction of the people in those fields. But the cases among teachers and coaches have triggered concerns: Are unobtrusive checks protecting children; is the role of social media increasing unbefitting contact; are the boundaries between student and teacher less defined now; are pedophiles or predators more acceptable to seek professions that place them in contact with children?
