When I was appointed editor in chief of The Murray State News a year ago, I started brainstorming what would be my signature large format.
After throwing around different ideas, it seemed a special section on diversity was the most logical option. After all, the University is in the final phase of implementation of a campus individuality through the Plan Commission president on diversity and inclusion.
After choosing a theme, the next thing was to brainstorm story ideas. I had no idea it would be such a difficult reprehend.I knew I did not want to take the path of just black and white chalk. It's cliché and, frankly, not diverse at all. But the choice to do a plethora of open doors. The disparity is all around us. It turns out, that became my problem. How, in a limited space, we could represent all the differences that exist within the university community?
I flawless coming up with ideas is not something I could do alone. Thus, during the final week of last semester, I met representatives of the university and the community. We talked about the launch and that should be represented. In these pages you will see the results of this meeting and which led along the path.
