Gay coupling measures are
moving forward in Washington, New Jersey and Maryland, but neither activists for or against same-sex unions are looking at those outcomes to be done deals. Meanwhile, public opinion on the content appears to be changing. Last May, a Gallup poll showed that, for the first time, a lion's share of Americans approved of gay marriage. In that survey, 53% of respondents said they approved of same-sex marriages, while 45% disapproved.
