BALTIMORE -- The discussion over legalizing same sex marriage is heating up in Annapolis.
As Gov. Martin O'Malley spoke about his plans to legalized same sex union at a conference on Sunday, a statewide coalition of faith and community leaders are preparing to produce a demonstration Monday in Annapolis against the bill.
O'Malley made it clear that passing the bill is on the top of his legislative agenda for the 2012 Inclusive Assembly session. A similar bill was passed in the Senate last year, but it stalled in the Quarter.
The governor on Sunday addressed a national conference on gay, lesbian, androgynous and transgender equality that was in Baltimore. He said compassion, understanding and objectiveness are needed in the debate.
"It is the dignity of a
free and diverse people who, at the end of the day, all want the same aspect for their children -- for their children to live in a loving, caring, unalterable home that's protected equally under the law," the governor said.
